Review: Make P:rem Peel Me Radiance Peeling Serum

I love Dr. Wu Mandelic Acid 18% Serum. It does a good job kicking out all the dullness and whiteheads on my skin, and sometimes the blackheads too. But Dr. Wu can be quite harsh on the skin sometimes. So I was tempted to buy the Make P:rem Radiance Peeling Serum when Glow Recipe featured it as their September 2017’s Glow Gamechanger. Let’s see how it works compared to Dr. Wu!

Make P:rem Radiance Peeling Serum is a lightweight essence with the exfoliating ingredient PHA to gently exfoliate your skin, making it appears brighter, smoother and clearer over time.

The texture is just nice. It comes in a lightweight gel that gets absorbed easily into your skin. It has a rather sharp fragrance that many may not like. The smell is highly similar to its sibling, the Radiance Peeling Sleeping Pack.

I use it in the serum step, which is 1-2 pumps after toner and before a moisturizer. You don’t need a pH adjusting toner for this to be effective. Alternatively, you can also use this as a lotion pack, where you pump 3-4 pumps onto a cotton pad, and apply it on the inflamed or flaking areas on your skin for enhanced efficacy. It doesn’t sting or hurt your skin when doing that, unlike other exfoliating product like Dr. Wu or SK-II FTE. I use it every day, sometimes in the morning and sometimes at night depending on my mood and skin needs.

INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS

The structure looks like what you usually have in an essence or lightweight serum. We have lightweight slip agents and emollients as the main ingredients, followed by niacinamide (vitamin B3, responsible for elasticity-improving and dark spots reducing), apple fruit water (a natural source of AHA), and many other botanical extracts. The key ingredient here is PHA, also known as lactobionic acid, which has larger molecules than AHA but is also effective at getting rid of stubborn dead skin cells thus accelerating the cellular renewal of your skin and making it appears younger and brighter over time. 

PERFORMANCE

Personally, I am not a fan of this product. I don’t like using a PHA serum on a daily basis. The effect is too slow and unnoticeable. It cannot get rid of my acne fast enough like The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%, not to mention my acne scars. It is also not particularly effective as an exfoliating serum. True enough, it is gentler than many exfoliators but the results are not there. I can get similar effects from other brightening serum that is also gentle on the skin. As for its radiance effect, most of my treatment essences can do an equally good job without the need for an exfoliator. But that’s just me. This is still a good product in terms of its overall brightening effect, but this is not exactly what I was looking for.

CONCLUSION

You will love this if you want a gentle exfoliating serum that will make your skin appears brighter and dewy after at least two weeks of using it. But this is definitely not a quick skin remedy. This is more suitable for those with sensitive, dehydrated, and oilier than those with dry skin. I don’t find myself reaching out for this anymore after a while so I give it to others who may need it more. But my poison may be your apple so do choose wisely before buying!
