Review: Loveisderma UV Clear SPF50 PA+++

It is hard to find a sun lotion that is lightweight and easy to be absorbed by the skin. Many sunscreen like the ones I tried from AMPM, Belif, Hada Labo are lightweight but not refined enough to be absorbed by the skin without giving you any greasiness or stickiness. Having said that, I must admit that  I am a bit picky with sunscreen. Sunscreen is really a yay or nay product for me. I won't wear it, or wear enough of it, if the texture is really unpleasant. I don't like heavy sunscreen, or sticky ones. But I also don't like sunscreen that "pretends" to be lightweight when they are not. Sun lotion that often feels slippery or hard to get absorbed by the skin belongs to this "pretension" category.

And yes, Loveisderma UV Clear SPF50 is in that category.

The product is packed in a plastic tube like most other Taiwanese sunscreens. There isn't anything special about it. Even the scent is the conventional lotiony scent you get in many lotion products.

The texture is unpleasant for me. It is actually quite lightweight. You can see it dispenses out and sinks in your skin really fast within several pats. It is tacky at first, but then slowly turns into tightness when the product is fully absorbed - the kind of feeling you get from a very dehydrating product. And that feeling will become almost unbearable when you apply 1/4 tsp of it.

Active ingredients are octinoxate and uvinul A plus, both of which are chemical filters against UVB and UVA. The physical filter titanium dioxide is also added to provide greater shield against UVB and some UVA. All of these very commonly found ingredients in majority of sunscreen. Certain botanical extracts like macadamia seed oil, nigra flower, niacinamide, olive are also added for additional moisturizing benefits. It may even be there just to counter the tightness offered by the sunscreen. There isn't any particular beneficial or harmful ingredients here.

PERFORMANCE

I used this less than 5 times so it is hard for me to judge its efficacy. I don't enjoy putting it on my skin hence I can't say that it is performing either. I think the basic requirements for a skincare product, or food even, is to be cosmetically elegant enough to encourage people to use it. I would say that this has failed me.

CONCLUSION

I'm not sure for others but this is unfortunately not my cup of tea. I have had many sunscreens with texture that fails me so I know very soon when a sunscreen doesn't work for me. I like the UV Shield with foundation one better, and is hoping that the brand comes out with a non-foundation version with similar texture as the UV Shield one though!

- texture is unpleasant to use; leaves the skin tacky and then tight
- the scent is giving me headache
