Review: Innisfree Jeju Lava Seawater Ampoule Skin

I love Innisfree Jeju Lava Seawater line a lot, which you can see in my previous review. Hence, I was pretty excited to get its Ampoule Skin after I finished using the Essence from the same line. I was thinking about the normal skin at first, but since I never try the Ampoule Skin, I am really curious to see how well will this product works with the addition of moisturizing ampoule.




The Innisfree Jeju Lava Seawater line was launched last year. I got its deluxe sample set, and was deeply in love with its texture, scent and efficacy. It provides basic hydration to my skin with delicious antioxidizing ingredients. I guess I just can't resist anything "ocean-made".

The Ampoule Skin is packed in a deep blue, round plastic bottle. It is recyclable so you can bring this back to Innisfree store and gets it recycled in exchange for RM 1 worth of points. My only complain is the wide opening on top. The design doesn't help to seal the product well, so there might be some spillovers when you twist-open the cap, especially if you accidentally put it upside down or shake it. Not very hygienic as some product can get stuck in the gaps between the cap and breed bacteria.

To use, you have to first mix the Skin and Ampoule together. You simply squeeze the Ampoule into the Skin, shake vigorously until well mixed, then you are ready to use! The Ampoule will be fully emulsified after a week or so.

The end product is a milky-coloured watery essence that smells herbal. It gets absorbed easily into the skin, leaving it supple and plump.

80.7% of the content is sea water. More specifically, seawater brewed by volcanic bedrock for hundreds of thousands of years in the Jeju Island. The environment, where water temperature and pH level are at constant, helps to preserve compositions and salt level of the seawater, giving it antioxidizing and moisturizing properties. The seawater is also rich in minerals which it captures from the volcanic bedrock around it when permeating through.

The rest are what I normally call the Jeju essences, consisted of tangerine peel, orchid, green tea, camellia flower, and cactus. Innisfree attributes a whole skincare line to the tangerine peel (whitening), orchid (brightening, moisturizing, anti-aging), and green tea (moisturizing) so you know the efficacy of these ingredients combined - brightening, moisturizing, and anti-oxidizing. We also have squalane for added moisture.

PERFORMANCE

I like this! But I think I like the normal Skin better than the Ampoule Skin! The Ampoule Skin is not as hydrating and refreshing than the normal Skin for some reasons. And I don't really appreciate its added "moisture" content. It feels a little bit heavy with the Ampoule inside. I think those with drier skin will appreciate the extra "bodies" in the Ampoule. In drier days, it is a great lightweight but highly moisturizing toner. But normally, my skin just like something lighter and hydrating.

CONCLUSION

I use this Ampoule Skin quite frequently (almost everyday) ever since I open it. It is one of my most go-to hydrating toner, but if given a choice, I would opt for the normal Skin because I prefer lighter toner that is more hydrating than moisturizing. This feels like an essence toner, somewhere between the Essence and Skin, but for some reason I like them separate. Efficacy-wise, I didn't notice any significant anti-aging benefits using it for a couple of months now, but the additional hydration it provides does make my skin appears younger and suppler, which also means anti-aging in a sense.

In short, I like it, but if I were to repurchase, I will only go for the Jeju Lava Seawater Skin (less the Ampoule).


Pros:

- refreshing and relaxing herbal scent
- made of seawater! (is that a pros?)

Cons:
- a little bit heavier than I expect
- not really an "anti-aging" toner; din't see much anti-aging effects
